Lawsuits for Access to Information by Journalists
The first access to information case
brought to court by a journalist was that of Alexey Lazarov from Capital weekly. He filed an appeal
against the refusal of the Council of Ministers to provide a copy of the
minutes from the first session of the new Cabinet in 2001.
Since then, more and more journalists use the procedures
under the Access to Public Information Act to obtain information. They seek protection
of their right of access to information in the court. With the help of Access
to Information Programme appeal against unlawful refusals of public bodies to
provide access to information.
Out of the over 150 access to information court cases supported
by AIP, over 30 are brought by journalists.
You can review the summaries of access to information court
cases brought by journalists from central and local media with the legal help
of AIP.
